Introduction to the Chemical Genomics Program

The School hosts the first Ministry of Education-approved doctoral program in"Chemical Genomics"as a secondary discipline.Chemical Genomics is an emerging interdisciplinary field thatrepresents a deep integration ofchemistry, biology, and medicine, offeringnovel perspectives and concepts for life science research from a chemical standpoint. As a new paradigm for drug discovery in the post-genomic era, Chemical Genomics significantly accelerates the development of the biomedical industry and serves as the "R&D focal point" for future drug innovation.

The School currently comprises four key disciplinary areas: Synthetic Chemistry, Computational Chemistry, Chemical Biology, and Translational Biology.

(1)Synthetic Chemistry: Focusingon developing a series of metal- and small organic molecule-catalyzed tandem reactions for the targeted synthesis of bioactive natural products. It involves designing novel total synthesis strategies to efficiently build structurally diverse natural product-based molecular libraries for drug discovery, and conducting medicinal chemistry research.

(2)Computational Chemistry: Utilizing computational chemistry to investigate and elucidate the principles of molecular recognition and selectivity control in chemical processes. This knowledge guides the development of highly efficient and selective catalytic reactions and inspires the design of novel synthetic strategies. Furthermore, it involves developing new computational chemistry approaches to predict the structure and function of disease-relevant biomacromolecules, thereby facilitating the design of molecular probes and drugs for the modulation of critical signaling pathways.

(3)Chemical Biology: With a focus on the interactions of critical biomolecules like protein kinases and epigenetic regulators in major diseases, this field seeks to facilitate the development of new chemical means for therapeutic intervention.

(4)Translational Biology: Concentrating on oncology, cardiovascular diseases, and major neurological disorders, this area is grounded in the in-depth exploration of biological mechanisms. It aims to identify novel drug targets for significant diseases and establish innovative therapeutic approaches, thereby advancing translational medicine and drug discovery in China to international standards.
