In accordance with the "Measures for Peking University (Main Campus) to Admit Recommended Exempt Students for Postgraduate Studies in 2026," the School of Chemical Biology and Biotechnology at Peking University admits outstanding fresh undergraduate graduates from across the country as doctoral candidates through the recommendation and exemption pathway. The specific rules are as follows:
I. Basic Requirements for Applicants
1.Uphold the leadership of the Communist Party of China, possess good moral2.character, and abide by laws and regulations.
Hold a recommendation for exemption qualification from their home university.
3. English proficiency(meeting any one of the following criteria):
a)CET-4 score of 500 or above;
b)CET-6 score of 445 or above;
c)Pass in TEM-4 or TEM-8;
d)Pass in WSK (PETS 5);
e)TOEFL score of 90 or above (iBT). Only scores from a single test date are accepted, and MyBest scores are not accepted (test taken after September 1, 2024);
f)GRE score of 300 or above (test taken after September 1, 2021);
g)IELTS (Academic) score of 6.0 or above (test taken after September 1, 2024);
h)First-author publication in an English-language SCI journal.
II. Application Method and Procedure
1. Online Application at Peking University

Applicants can fill in their application information online through the "Online Application" module.

2. Hard Copy Materials
1)One copy of the "Peking University 2026 Application Form for Recommended Exempt Students for Postgraduate Studies";
Note:
a) Generated online after completion, andmust be signed by the applicant in person.
b) After printing the form, the "Recommender Information" section should be handwritten in the blank space.
c) The ranking in the application system can be filled out according to the actual situation of the home university. If the university does not provide a comprehensive ranking, fill in the academic performance ranking or major ranking, and add a note on the application form.
d) Each time information is modified in the application system, a new verification code for the application form will be generated. Please ensure the verification code on the final submitted hard copy matches the one in the online system.
e)The applicant's name and ID number in the system must be accurate and cannot be modified after submission.
2)One copy of the "Peking University 2026 Personal Statement for Recommended Exempt Students for Postgraduate Studies" (downloadable from the application system; can be typed,printed, and signed by the applicant in person);
3) Two copies of the "Peking University 2026 Recommendation Letter for Recommended Exempt Students for Postgraduate Studies." These must be from two experts (associate professor or above, or equivalent professional title) related to the applied discipline. The recommendation letters must be sealed and signed across the seal flap (Note:The body of the letter can be typed, but the expert must sign in person);
4) One copy of the undergraduate transcript, stamped with the official seal of the university's academic affairs office or a special transcript certification seal, placed in a self-prepared envelope, sealed, and stamped across the seal flap with the academic affairs office seal or the special transcript certification seal;
5) One copy of the foreign language proficiency proof (officially certified photocopy of the score report);
6) One set of award certificates (photocopies of representative academic paper first pages, various award certificates, or related proofs).
Notes:
a) Materials listed in items 1), 2), and 3) above can be downloaded and printed from the Peking University Graduate Admissions Website after submitting the application.
b) Items 1-5 are mandatory; item 6 is optional based on the applicant's circumstances.
c) All materials must be authentic. Falsification will result in disqualification from the re-examination.
Other Requirements: The Shenzhen Bay Laboratory enrolls Ph.D. students under the Chemistry (Chemical Genomics) major. Applicants for the Shenzhen Bay project should indicate "Shenzhen Bay Project" and their intended research group in pencil on the first page of the application form.

Please place the above materials (all printed on A4 paper) in order in a self-prepared envelope (materials should not be bound; use paper clips or binder clips). 3. Application via the Ministry of Education's Recommendation Exemption Service System
The Ministry of Education's "National Recommendation Exemption Postgraduate Information Disclosure and Management Service System" (hereinafter "Recommendation Exemption Service System," website:http://yz.chsi.com.cn/tm) is the unified information filing, disclosure, and online application and admission system for recommendation exemption work.
Applicants must hold a recommendation exemption qualification from their home university (based on the list of recommended students filed by the home university with the Recommendation Exemption Service System). Applicants must log in to the Recommendation Exemption Service System according to the requirements of the Ministry of Education and the admitting school/department, register and fill in basic information, complete online registration, upload electronic photos, pay online fees, fill in application preferences, confirm re-examination participation, confirm admission offers, etc.
III. Initial Review and Re-examination
1. After receiving the application materials, the school will organize an expert panel to conduct an initial review and determine the list of candidates eligible for the re-examination. Applicants who qualify for the re-examination must participate at the time and in the manner notified by the school.
2. The re-examination for recommended exemption admission will be conducted in person.
3. The re-examination adopts a differential approach, selecting the best candidates for admission.
4. The re-examination format is a comprehensive interview. In principle, the interview for each applicant who passes the initial review will last no less than 30 minutes. A score of 60 or above in the comprehensive interview is required to pass; failure will result in non-admission.
5. The school will adhere to the principle of seeking truth from facts and assess applicants' ideological and political qualities and moral character during the re-examination and admission process. The assessment primarily includes political attitude, ideological performance, moral character, law-abiding behavior, honesty, and trustworthiness. Failure in the ideological and moral assessment will result in non-admission.

IV. Conditional Admission and Publicity
1. Based on the re-examination results, the school will determine the conditional admission list. Applicants who pass the school's re-examination and receive a conditional admission offer from Peking University but fail to obtain the recommendation exemption qualification from their home university will have their conditional admission offer invalidated.
2. The school will send conditional admission notifications to the selected applicants via the Ministry of Education's Recommendation Exemption Service System. Applicants should confirm online whether they accept the conditional admission offer within the timeframe specified by the school. Failure to accept or confirm within the specified time will result in cancellation of the conditional admission offer.
3. By October 20, 2025, the school will complete the online publicity of the proposed admission list. Applicants can check the proposed admission list on the school's official website or the Peking University Graduate Admissions Website. Any questions should be raised to the school within the publicity period.
V. Re-review and Admission
Before issuing the admission notice, Peking University will conduct a qualification re-review of conditionally admitted recommended exempt students according to the following requirements. Failure to pass the re-review will result in revocation of the conditional admission status.
1.Completion of all credit requirements for courses and practical components (including graduation thesis or internship) specified in the undergraduate training program;
2.The graduation thesis or design should achieve a grade of "Good" or 80 points or above;
3.No failing grades in undergraduate compulsory courses after obtaining the recommendation exemption qualification;
4.No record of violations of laws, regulations, or disciplinary actions from obtaining the recommendation exemption qualification until enrollment.
Admitted recommended exempt students must provide their original ID card, academic degree certificate, and graduation certificate to our school for verification on the day of enrollment. Failure to obtain a bachelor's degree and undergraduate graduation certificate before enrollment will result in cancellation of admission by the university.
VI. Other Matters
1. Applicants must commit to the authenticity of personal information, application information, and submitted materials. If issues related to academic misconduct, professional ethics, honesty, or trustworthiness are discovered at any time, the applicant's application, admission, etc., will be revoked, and their home university will be notified.
2. If higher authorities issue new enrollment policies for the 2026 academic year, our school will make corresponding adjustments and announce them promptly.
3. Applicants should pay timely attention to relevant documents and notices released or sent by Peking University and the admitting school/department. The applicant bears all consequences arising from personal negligence or other reasons.
